“Funding <i>does something</i> to people”: NGOs navigating funding challenges in India

This article offers an ethnographic exploration of NGO “mission creep” as a result obtaining funding. Many scholars express scepticism about funding on goals, while others encourage nuanced critique. 18-month study two NGOs in Bangalore, India explores workers navigating the acceptance maintaining their original missions. When one failed to uphold this goal, staff members created own NGO. Findings indicate that even when have experienced mission creep from and make conscious efforts maintain missions, they face structural barriers difficult perhaps impossible.
